While looking for something to snack lightly with for the afternoon at the South Star branch near the office, I espied this -- the boldy-named Glorious Blend Hi-Calcium 7-in-1 Health Coffee.
A quick look revealed no nutrition facts on the individual sachet but I do recall seeing it on the box (South Star was selling the coffee tingi-style) but since it said "sugar-free", I'm assuming the calories won't be at the same level as that of your regular coffee doses from Starbucks or Bo's Coffee.
Let's see the ingredients -- natural and organic-based sweetener (the box said sweetener made from Stevia), non-dairy creamer, coffee, coral calcium, Gotu Kola, Malunggay, and Mangosteen.
Clearly, the last three elements combined with it being SF, is what makes Glorious Blend purportedly a healthy coffee. A quick Wikipedia on Gotu Kola reveals that it has beneficial medicinal properties for someone like me with the D. Add to that Malunggay and Mangosteen, two natural food items receiving much attention of late due to findings of naturally-originating health benefits from consumption of both.
The coffee also says it's high in calcium. If true, that would be helpful for people living on a diet of low-fat or non-fat milk. We get a dose of our much-needed calcium without ingesting the fat from dairy products.
Ok ... so, I'm drinking coffee that alleges to be healthy. That's good news. But how about the taste?
Aroma-wise, yes, it indeed smells like coffee. I poured two sachets into my large office mug and doused it with hot water. The prerequisite coffee smell was there along with the right coffee color -- milk brown.
But I guess I've overdone it with the two sachets because now it's too sweet. And a feeling of something oily stays on your tongue for a few milliseconds after you sip. But that just might be me and my taste buds.
In any case, it will be too early to tell if indeed Glorious Blend will be able to live up to its claim to be a healthy coffee. I will just have to work on how to make sure my next cup won't be as sweet as the one I'm having now.
I think I need to douse more hot water to my coffee now, folks.
